Nissan, Toyota to unveil electric trucks and cars

Japan’s Nissan and Toyota Corp. said on Tuesday they would unveil electric vehicles and trucks later this year.

The announcements come a year after Japan’s auto industry, which accounts for about 80 percent of global sales, reached its lowest level in years.

The automakers said the vehicles and the trucks they would offer would have lower emissions than current models and that they would be powered by electric engines that emit less carbon dioxide than gasoline engines.

Japan’s auto market has shrunk in recent years as more automakers and suppliers shifted away from traditional fuel-burning engines.
